Ingredients

1 medium Apple, red delicious
1 tsp Coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel apple(s).

  2. Next, core apple(s) and cut them in slices.  I like to use one of those round apple cutters that cuts the apple in 16 slices.

  3. Steam apple(s) for about 10 minutes in a double broiler.

  4. Set aside a few slices of apple(s) to offer as finger foods.

  5. Transfer the rest to a blender and puree.

  6. Will keep in fridge for 3 days tops.  You can also freeze in ice cube trays.  I recommend using  1 oz ice cube trays so that you know the exact amounts you'll be taking out.

Advanced Preparation

1 day prior [optional], Apple, red delicious 1 medium
Instructions:

To make the Recipe in bulk:
Peel, core, slice and steam 12 apples for 10 minutes.
Puree all apples.
Freeze them in 1 oz ice cube trays.

To reheat only the amounts you need:
Pull out enough apple puree to use for your baby's meal.
Defrost and reheat in a small sauce pan with 1 tsp of coconut oil for every 2 oz.

Notes:

* 1 medium apple will give you about 2 oz.  Make a bigger batch of apple puree and store extras in the freezer in 1 oz ice cube trays.  To wash, peel and slice 12 apples, plan for 25 min prep time, 10 minutes cook time and a 24 oz yield. Do not add the coconut oil when making a bigger batch to freeze.  Add it when reheating.

*If also offering sliced apples as a finger food, reserve a few slices.  They will keep well in the fridge for 2 to 3 days.  For the 6 month old baby, this can be 5-6 apple slices per feeding all the way up to a full apple (16 slices) per feeding for the older baby.

*If reheating from frozen, place frozen apple cubes in a sauce pan and add 1 tsp of oil (coconut oil, olive oil, bone broth) for every 2 oz.
