| 1 cup | Applesauce, unsweetened |
| 1/4 cup | Almond milk, unsweetened (or other non-dairy milk) |
| 1 tsp | Apple cider vinegar |
| 1 tsp | Vanilla extract, pure (or other flavoring) |
| 2 cup | Wheat flour, whole wheat |
| 1 tbsp | Baking powder |
| 1 tsp | Baking soda |
| 1/2 tsp | Salt |
| 1/2 cup | Turbinado sugar |
1. Combine wet ingredients.
2. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
4. Turn the mixture out onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and shape it into a rough circle about an inch thick and 7-8 inches in diameter. Cut across the circle, as if cutting a pie, and divide the circle into 8 sections, leaving the shape of the circle intact. You can pull each of the triangles back from the center of the circle to widen it just a bit and separate your scones slightly.
5. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 20-25 minutes. Cool slightly before breaking or cutting into individual scones. Optionally, you can dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with a powdered sugar glaze before serving.
6. (To make a glaze, mix about a cup of powdered sugar with just enough water, milk, or juice to make it spreadable or able to be drizzled from the end of a spoon.)
