It is customary to make this on St. Barbara Day with cherries, but you can use any fruit or spices YOU like, anytime!
Ingredients
1 cup
Wheat berries
((steel cut oats are great too!))
2 1/2 cup
Almond milk, unsweetened
((use any non-dairy milk of your choice))
1 dash
Salt
(to taste)
1 tsp
Vanilla extract, pure
(and/or almond extract)
1 tbsp unpacked
Brown sugar
1/2 cup
Sweet cherry, raw
(●; dried; fresh, or frozen care fine as well...use more if you like lots of fruit.herries)
1/4 cup
Slivered almonds
Instructions
Before going up to bed, combine all the
ingredients in a small crockpot, and cook on low
heat overnight. You can add a little more milk or
water if needed in the morning, before serving.
Serve with a little maple syrup and/or brown sugar
and top with some fresh cherries and some more
slivered almonds, if desired.
On another day, you may opt to vary your
ingredients to include peaches and pecans; apples,
raisins and walnuts; blueberries, fresh or dried;
pineapple & toasted coconut, chocolate chips...just
about anything!
