The paleolithic or paleo diet is a way of eating that mimics the diet of our ancestors, with the elimination of certain food categories thought to be more difficult for humans to digest historically. The paleo eating style avoids or eliminates processed foods that contain refined sugars, refined grains, refined vegetable oils, trans fatty acids, salt, and added chemicals. Legumes, grains, and dairy are also excluded. The focus is placed on fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, fish, shellfish, grass-fed meats and organ meats, free-range poultry, free-range eggs, nuts, and certain healthful oils. The Paleo Diet is a low glycemic load diet that can promote blood sugar balance.
