Ingredients

1 tbsp Butter, unsalted
1 tbsp Olive Oil, Extra Virgin
1 1/2 cup Yellow onion (finely diced)
1/4 cup Beef broth (stock), low-sodium
1 cup Sour cream, 14% M.F. (good quality with fewest ingredients)
227 gm Cream cheese (softened)
1/4 cup Mayonnaise
1 tsp Onion powder
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1 tsp Parsley, fresh
1 dash Celery seed
1 dash Granulated sugar (a pinch)
1 dash Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and cook until semi-translucent (reduce heat if needed to prevent burning)
  3. Add beef broth and continue cooking until onions absorb the broth and they are tender and caramelized. Remove from heat and let onions cool.
  4. Meanwhile, mix together sour cream, cream cheese and mayonnaise until smooth and creamy.
  5. Stir in cooled onions. Add remaining spices.
  6. Taste mixture and adjust spices to your liking. Remember though, flavor will intensify greatly as it sits so be careful not to over season.
  7. Add a few pinches of salt and pepper, to your liking, being sure to after each addition. Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight.
  8. When ready to serve, stir and garnish with chives and parsley. Serve with chips or vegetables.
