Place dates in a saucepan and cover with water.
Boil until mushy (35 minutes).
Drain the water.
Blend the dates with cinnamon, butter, and salt.
Cut the apples into a flower bloom shape.
Place a square of dark chocolate in the centre.
Put a generous glob of the date mixture (the mixture does about 4 apples) on top.
Bake until soft (mine took 45 minutes) – half way through, when the apple is beginning to spread, take it out and spread the caramel over it a bit more along with 1 tsp coconut oil to each apple, getting it in the crevices.
Serve immediately with ice cream, cream, vanilla maple coconut cream, or natural yoghurt on top.
